“I am passionate about helping people get closer to their personal and professional goals so I am always willing to share my knowledge on how to make it in life, the ultimate big journey…”
JABIG is a Canadian based DJ who is about to embark on an ambitious epic journey ”to visit every country in the world to raise funds for the United Nations World Food Programme [WFP]”. He says the trip, aptly named ‘THE BIG JOURNEY’ may take five years or more and he plans to play a set in every country that he visits. He is due to set off this October so we caught up with JABIG to find out more about his journey and because he’s always good for a dope deep house mix.
He gets his DJ name JABIG from his birth name, Jean -Aim é Bigirimana the alias has more of a DJ ring to it he explains! Born in Rwanda JABIG moved to Kenya in his early teens with his parents. He lists his musical influences at that formative period in his life as
“A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Mary J Blige, TLC, Zhané, Grand Puba, Warren G and of course Tupac, The Notorious BIG and Aaliyah (may God bless their souls). It’s only in my late teens, when I moved to South Africa that I discovered Deep House Music and got hooked!”
JABIG began his DJ career in South Africa in 1998, a professional journey that has taken him far and wide, from Johannesburg to Rio de Janeiro and beyond. For over a decade he has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious events and venues, including Cielo in New York City, Nikki Beach in Miami, the Red Bull Montreal Formula 1 Grand Prix Week-End Party, the Miami Winter Music Conference, and the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
His focus now is clearly on the Big Journey
“It turns out that a DJ world tour by car is a logistical nightmare. 3 years later, I am still putting it together. At this stage, I am hoping for a late October 2013 kickoff that will see me start with a US/Canada trip, the Big Journey’s first leg. If everything goes according to plan, I will be in the United Kingdom in mid- 2014 just before Autumn”.
The WFP who will be the beneficiaries of JABIG’s fundraising exploits are the world’s largest hunger relief agency that feed millions of at-risk people globally especially children. DJing his way from dancefloor to dancefloor, city to city, country to country and continent to continent, JaBig has made it his mission to help make extreme poverty history.
